Advisors looking to transition from one firm to another firm must do so before December 22nd in order to avoid the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority's (FINRA) annual registration pause. New registrations for licenses and terminations will stop at 11 p.m. EST on the 22nd and resume on January 3rd in the new year.
For a host of reasons, many advisors find switching firms during the holidays an unattractive burden. According to AdvisorHub, firms do not want advisors joining after the first few days in December. Mark Elzweig, a recruiter based in New York, recommends that advisors plan moves for early in the week of December 5th.
Advisors who fail to plan appropriately also could face the risk of having their registration process stuck in a pre-deadline bottleneck.
Financial Advisor Transitions consults advisors nationwide to explore employment transition options and to preserve and protect their practice in any transition that they make.
