Private Equity Has Become Billionaire Families' Favorite Asset Class

July 15th, 2022, 1:30 PM

According to ThinkAdvisor, the enthusiastic marketing efforts are responsible for the fact that billionaire family offices and high-net-worth retail clients are the new waves of private equity investors.

As of 2021, the 221 most prominent family offices already were allocating 21 percent of their money into private equity through direct investment or funds. According to a UBS survey, those billionaire offices intend to "extend their retreat from cash and bonds."

Valuation is a significant concern, but the wealthy seem undeterred. Eighty-five percent of the billionaire officers indicated that they are likely to invest in early-stage companies this year, up from 74 percent in 2021. Seventy-five percent of the families believe that the private equity asset class will continue outperforming public markets.
