CFP Board Temporarily Suspends Texas Advisor Faced with Murder Charges

March 22nd, 2023, 2:45 PM

A former Vanguard advisor accused of murdering his girlfriend in Bogota, Colombia, is now facing temporary suspension of his CFP certification.
The Certified Financial Planning Board (CFP Board) suspended John Poulos'
certification last month pending further investigation into the criminal charges that he now faces in Colombia.

Poulos' suspension was issued after a hearing panel reviewed the matter and concluded that CFP Board demonstrated by a preponderance of the evidence that Poulos' conduct poses a significant threat to the public or that his conduct significantly impinges upon the reputation of the profession and the CFP® certification marks.

As a result of the suspension, Poulos cannot use the CFP certification marks or state or suggest that he is a CFP professional while the order is in effect, according to FinancialPlanning.com.
