April 4th, 2023, 10:54 AM

The Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards (CFP Board) formally established a Competency Standards Commission to review and evaluate the Board's competency requirements across education, examinations, experience, and continuing education.
According to a CFP Board press release, the members of the board consist of various stakeholders from across the financial advisor industry, including industry roles ranging from executive-level positions to interns working towards CFP certification. Jack Brod, former Chair of CFP's Board of directors, will serve as the chair of the commission.
The newly created standards commission will validate current requirements to obtain CFP certification and recommend changes for improvements that reinforce its value and relevance to the financial planning profession. According to FinancialPlanning.com, the commission may propose changes or recommend that current standards stay in place.
Upon completion of its review, the commission will finalize its recommendations on proposed changes subject to a public feedback period and the Board of Directors' deliberation and approval.
